Long story short, flight should have landed in Rome. Continued on to Switzerland, squawked with code 7500: aircraft hijacking.

Talks of "asylum."

Plane definitely landed.

Reports that pilots are climbing out of windows.

Swiss law enforcement negotiating with individual aboard Ethiopian Airlines Flight 702.

That press release by Ethiopian Airlines got taken down.

Passengers will be disembarking within the next few minutes. (6:21 GST)

He broke the news before all the major news sites. I tried to do a Google search for the flight and only found three sources reporting the hijacking: AirlineReporter.com, News.com.au, and some random Jewish politics web site.

The first report of a hijacking was over 5 hours ago with news progressing slowly until the plane landed about an hour ago and the story started exploding on twitter about the same time you posted it on here. Ethiopian Airlines put a news release on their web site about 20 minutes ago andwhen I look on all the major news sites there is still no report of this.

I kind of use Twitter for most of my news now, social media spreads faster than a "go-ahead" from the editor. It's not nearly as reliable, but I got the Durham Academy video at 513 views so I'm feeling pretty proud right now.

That and I'm 17 and the internet is my home.

Well, a few years ago they brought out that new one-way hijacking methodology and some passengers didn't much care for that after hearing about it. Hijackings used to be safe, relatively.
